As statement knocks go, Justin Greaves picked quite the moment to truly announce his arrival in world cricket.
West Indies have historically performed dreadfully when undertaking Test tours of New Zealand, so fans scarcely dare to dream of wins or draws.
Through that lens, the fact that they were able to bat out five sessions to draw the first Test against New Zealand, finishing on the highest fourth innings total in the history of the game (without defeat), could be considered just as significant as the recent Test match wins over Australia and Pakistan.
To place their recovery in perspective, when Justin Greaves joined Shai Hope at the crease on day four, West Indies were 72/4 (28.3 overs) and were ‘chasing’ an improbable 531 to win.
