West Indies Championship: Does reduced game time demand radical rethink?

Can you develop a first-class cricketer with only three games in a calendar year?

As it stands, the financial constraints placed on Cricket West Indies mean they can no longer hold a five-game first-class season, much less a ten-game one. 

The root of the issue began in 2019/2020 when the COVID pandemic ended the West Indies Championship after eight rounds. Previous seasons had commonly consisted of thirty games, so Cricket West Indies’ finances took an unexpected hit. Domestic cricket has since returned, but the resulting tight purse strings have meant that game time has gradually dwindled.
