An entertaining series is over and New Zealand are the victors, scraping by with a 3-2 win. If we were to focus on the scoreline alone, the conclusion might seem straightforward: Another ODI series lost, and yet more proof that West Indies are likely to face the consequences of their ranking problem.
But scorelines are often a limited instrument for measuring the truth of a situation. This series, taken in full, deserves a more honest and thorough reading.
Scratch beneath the surface and West Indies fans will find plenty of reasons to remain hopeful.
