Nicholas Pooran: Icon status revoked?

MACHEL HEWITT: Nicholas Pooran’s early retirement sets a precedent that individual wealth takes priority over international honours, foreshadowing a bleak future for West Indies cricket. If the next generation takes its cue from this icon, we should pack up now.

Let's call it what it is and stop the pretence. 

Nicholas Pooran wants to make money as a franchise gun for hire and sees no point or purpose in playing for the West Indies. 

Should we view it as a prudent financial decision, or one that spits on the West Indies crest? Either way, can we agree that his status as a generational icon in international cricket is irreparably harmed?

Consider it like this. Each generation has had its talismen. Whether it was the Three Ws, Gary Sobers, Viv Richards, Brian Lara, or Chris Gayle, they all symbolised and achieved greatness.
