West Indies' white-ball tour of Bangladesh in October produced mixed results for the Daren Sammy-coached Shai Hope-captained outfits.
The One-Day International (ODI) matches were staged at the 25,000-capacity Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, and Bangladesh prevailed by a 2-1 margin. But while the Tigers won the first ODI by 74 runs, West Indies took the second game in the Super Over, sparking hopes of a series victory. Alas, all positivity was erased in the decider, as Bangladesh registered their largest margin of victory over West Indies in an ODI, winning by 179 runs.
West Indies’ fortunes improved in the three-game T20 International series at the similarly sized Bir Sreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Chattogram. They came away from Bangladesh with a 3-0 series whitewash, taking the first game by 16 runs, the second game by 14 runs, and the final match by 5 wickets.
The mixed fortunes in the series raise many questions, but the key takeaways surround some big names and their outsider challengers.
