Super50 cutbacks: Is less really more?
14.11.25, 12:08 Updated 14.11.25, 12:08
Where Cricket West Indies’ finances are concerned, 2026 and 2027 have long been projected to be fallow years. And with the announcement of a shortened Super 50, it seems we are starting to see the consequences.
At the most recent Cricket West Indies quarterly media briefing, Director of Cricket Miles Bascombe stated that due to financial difficulties, changes would have to be made to Super50.
Gone is the traditional thirty-one-match, eight-team layout, and in its place is an abbreviated round-robin structure, with the top two teams qualifying directly for the final.
A total of 16 games, the tournament will be done and dusted inside 10 days, before you noticed it had even begun.
