Big batting questions: Fallout from the New Zealand white-ball series

JOEL BAILEY: Some might say the West Indies limited overs defeat in New Zealand was to be expected, while others might point out that they failed to capitalise on good opportunities to seize the initiative.

West Indies were beaten 3-1 by hosts New Zealand in the five-game T20 International series and were swept 3-0 in the One-Day International series earlier this month. Some might say it was to be expected, while others might point out that West Indies failed to capitalise on good opportunities to seize the initiative.

No matter how you look at it, they lost, and now Daren Sammy’s squad have no choice but to turn their attention to the three-Test series against the Kiwis in December.

But the white-ball series in New Zealand raises some burning questions that need answering.

Some accuse me of bias because I am a Trinidadian like Jangoo, but all allegiances aside, the question needs to be asked: What is Amir Jangoo’s role in the West Indies white-ball squads?
