
Sri Lanka Test: Trust the process or test the water?

With the West Indies Championship semi-final underway and the final on the horizon, talk is turning towards squad selection for West Indies’ first Test match of the summer against Sri Lanka.
As the latest flavours of the month score runs and take wickets, calls grow louder for their inclusion in Daren Sammy’s squad. Will he be swayed? When you ask players and fans to trust your process, that process surely contains a clear dividing line between backing the squad and rewarding the potential next big things. The question is where Sammy draws that line.
We have to assume he is working towards a clearly defined process, one that has identified and locked players into certain roles. And while criticisms of those players’ performances hold weight, we have to remind ourselves that the first three assignments in the World Test Championship were Australia (h), India (a), and New Zealand (a).
With that in mind, why would he make wholesale changes now?
