World Cups are rarely won on instinct alone. They are shaped by clarity: Clarity of roles, clarity of selection, and clarity of purpose. As the West Indies arrive in India for the T20 World Cup, their squad offers power, versatility, and experience. What it does not offer, however, is room for indecision.
There is no time for Sammy to bask in the nostalgia of 2016 or experiment with his XI. After all, they only have four guaranteed matches before the Super 8s.
In India, particularly in Kolkata and Mumbai where the West Indies will play all of their group matches, conditions will demand precision. Batting-friendly pitches, quick outfields, and the ever-present influence of dew will further compress the razor-thin margins. Games will swing in phases, often violently, and teams that hesitate in their planning will be punished.
For the West Indies, the challenge is not whether they possess talent. The challenge is whether they can deploy that talent coherently and execute better than their opponents.
